Domain Front Running
Dear Customers and Domain Searchers,
Recent industry news unveiled a practice called domain “front running” whereby domain registrars preemptively register domains that customers search for but don’t immediately buy. Registrars that engage in “front running” hold these domains so that they cannot later be registered at another company. Simply searching for a domain at a registrar that engages in “front running” puts your new domain ideas at risk.
“Dotster does not support the practice of domain front running and does not provide information about searched names to any third-party,” said Dotster CEO Clint Page. “We consider this practice at odds with the idea of protecting consumers and their rights.”
We would like to reassure our customers and domain searchers that:
- Dotster does not preemptively register or hold domain names from customer searches.
- Dotster does not sell domain name search data.
- Dotster does not block a customer from searching for and later registering domains with any competitor.
